Biography
I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Brisbane (Meanjin). I have been interested in art for as long as I could remember, but for most of my life, I didn’t let myself take it seriously. Somewhere along the way, I came to believe I wasn’t especially creative and that idea stuck for a long time. In recent years, I’ve started to create again and made the decision to step back from the finance world in 2024 to pursue my desire to create work that feels meaningful and true to me.
I was drawn to the vibrant and energetic feelings that urban environment evokes and started creating artwork using ink and watercolour. I see buildings and urban settings as more than just a backdrop. I also enjoy bringing the seemingly mundane objects and people’s interaction to life.
I studied visual arts at Queensland TAFE to further develop my skills. My art is shaped by the mix of cultures I’ve lived in. I often fill out my journal with sketches of simple objects and find myself working through the small, personal stories we carry. Memories, dreams, and everyday moments that leave an impression. These things tend to surface in my art, sometimes in ways I don’t expect.
I bring in everyday objects and places that mean something to me in my work. They speak of my story. My practice currently focuses on experimenting with minimalist, semi-abstract, and abstract landscapes in watercolour. I’ve grown to embrace the medium’s fluid, unpredictable nature to distill scenes to their essential forms, while exploring how colour and gesture can evoke memory and emotion. I also enjoy experimenting with different mediums and seeing where they take me. My hope is that my work connects with my audience through quiet contemplation and reflection.
